To be honest, I haven't made tacos in a minute. I'll admit, with how easy and cheap it is to run down to Taco Bell or Del Taco and get those shitty but somehow delicious tacos, it has lessened my desire to make homemade tacos. But man I'm glad I decided to try this recipe out. I'm hooked on these homemade tacos! The flavor surpasses any fast food mockery.

Obviously, the type of meat you use is very important. Ground beef that is 70-80% lean will give you a lot of flavor without the meat drowning in grease.

There are many homemade taco seasoning recipes out there and almost all of them consist of chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic powder, and onion salt. I played around with these seasonings until I found the perfect mixture. Feel free to play a bit with the amounts and see what fits for you. Maybe you want a little more spice or a little more savory. It's up to you!

Making a bulk amount of the taco seasoning and storing it in a spice jar is a great idea!

In the past I've had a hard time with ground beef taco meat, getting it broken up and browned evenly. I would find that it would stay in larger clumps, and I feel when that happens you just don't get the meat to soak up the flavor as good as it could when it's broken into smaller pieces. I found that it's helpful to break the meat into equal chunks while it's raw, and then continuously break up the meat while it cooks. You'll want to let the meat brown for about 3 minutes and then flip the meat and start breaking it up furiously. Continue searing until completely cooked for about 3-5 more minutes.

Adding a little bit of tomato sauce to your ground beef taco meat will help thicken the mixture and allows the spices to stick to the meat. It's amazing, you'll never go back to using water with your taco seasoning ever again! Trust me.

What do you like to top your ground beef tacos with?

The possibility are endless!

This makes a great weeknight meal because it can be on the table to enjoy in less than 30 minutes. With very little cleanup and very quick cook time, it makes a great option for when you don't want to go out, but you also don't want to spend a lot of time cooking either.

I was once given the advice that in order to be a good cook, you don't have to be perfect at cooking everything. Rather, you should find your favorite meals and perfect them until they are yours . Making that dish over and over, tweaking little things here and there till its just right. Experimenting is one of my absolute favorite things about cooking, so don't be afraid to try it yourself!

Now I want to hear from you guys! What are your favorite meals that you have perfected?

I hope you enjoy these wonderful beef tacos, loaded with flavor and spice!

Any leftovers make a great taco salad for lunch that week!
